It has always been important to plan ahead for the future. A lasting power of attorney will allow someone to act on your behalf in the event that you are unable to manage your affairs, either through accident or illness.
Lasting Powers of Attorney are a new type of power that replace Enduring Powers of Attorney. The key difference is that all lasting powers must be registered before they become effective. Generally this means they are more expensive.

Many of our clients already have Enduring Powers of Attorney (EPAs). The Mental Capacity Act 2005 means that you can no longer make changes to an existing EPA, or make a new one. However, existing EPAs are still valid.
